Dealer Tax Watch

The Dealer Tax Watch is a unique periodic publication that updates auto dealers and their CPAs on current IRS tax rulings, audit developments, court decisions, administrative pronouncements and other essential information that affect auto dealers and their dealerships.

Auto dealership industry and practitioner conferences, other dealer-oriented reference materials and new industry consultant service providers are occasionally featured to keep readers abreast of the resources available to them.

Where appropriate, cases and other materials selected are framed by planning suggestions and/or cautionary practice considerations.  Although intended to provide accurate, general information on tax matters, it should not be construed as offering accounting or legal advice or accounting or legal opinion on any specific facts or circumstances.

Twice-a-Year Updates.  As of 2008, an annual subscription consists of a Mid-Year update Edition of the Dealer Tax Watch and a Year-End Edition.  These comprehensive mid-year and year-end Editions summarize, analyze and comment on developments of significant interest and importance to CPAs serving automobile dealerships.  This twice-a-year format replaces the quarterly issue format that the Dealer Tax Watch previously followed from 1994 through 2007.

As in the past, primary sources for these mid-year and year-end Editions of the Dealer Tax Watch will include U.S. Tax Court and other court income tax decisions, IRS Revenue Rulings, Revenue Procedures, Letter Rulings, IRS Field Service Advice, Coordinated Issue Papers, IRS Audit Guides and other IRS guidance and training materials.  These and other sources are analyzed, interpreted and often accompanied by Practice Guides and At a Glance summaries that readers can readily apply in their practices.

The annual subscription cost for these two Editions of the Dealer Tax Watch is $625 ($580 + a shipping & handling fee of $45).  For more information or to subscribe, please click here or e-mail us indicating your interest in subscribing to the Dealer Tax Watch.

Special, in-depth coverage.  In 2008, the IRS’ issuance of Revenue Procedure 2008-23 was a good example of a major or landmark development that warranted exclusive coverage in our sister publication, the LIFO Lookout.  We dedicated the full Mid-Year 2008 Edition of that publication (at that time, we called it the "Spring 2008 Special Edition") to this major development which had followed years of “consideration” by the IRS and which now allows auto dealerships to use a single, combined pool for LIFO purposes.

This Revenue Procedure was the subject of a separate audio seminar presentation that Mr. De Filipps gave on April 24, 2008.  Additional comprehensive materials, case studies and Forms 970/3115 proformas were developed and included in the 60-page Mid-Year Edition of the LIFO Lookout

    Other Related Information.

"Back issues" are available for purchase - call us for more information.  Please note that you cannot purchase the current Edition of this publication (i.e., the most recently published Edition) as a "back issue."

A comprehensive cross-referenced index of all articles through December, 2010 is available online.  (The first issue was published in June 1994.)
